Administrator In Training Manual
This manual contains over is a must have for anyone who is starting or currently completing an administrator in training (A-I-T) program for their administrator license or is working as an assistant administrator.
The manual contains over 100 pages of straight forward no-nonsense practice tips designed to enrich your A-I-T experience by providing you specific activities and tasks to complete as you rotate through the various departments in your nursing home internship site.
Goes beyond any A-I-T Manual
This manual is very unique and goes beyond the basic task lists that most A-I-T program documentation requires you to fill out for licensure. You will not find a program like this anywhere else. I designed this manual based on my experience working with hundreds of individuals working towards licensure, and the key areas I have identified that most individuals do not have any experience or knowledge of, but need to know this for their licensing exams and to succeed once they are licensed. These are critical management functions and issues you need to know to be an effective administrator but for one reason or another were never exposed to.
Make the Most of Your Executive Management Training Program
A common concern that many individuals have is that they feel their internship was not sufficient to prepare them for the challenges they face ahead, As well as an innate understanding that their internship is their executive management program, and the only real training they will get before starting their career as the administrator of record in the most complex and regulated business in this country. No one document can totally prepare you for the challenges you will face on a daily basis, but what I have done is identified the essential and key functions and issues you must have some knowledge of and most likely will not be exposed to during your internship. And that subject matter filled a 100 page manual. The manual covers basic functions and also very high level functions that most individuals are never made aware of, but can be critical to your success and ability to hold to your job.
And I have integrated the key functions and concepts tested on the national exam into the manual. The manual is very concise and the exercises contain tasks and talking points to engage in with your preceptor and department heads.
Email or Call me With Any Questions
As an added bonus, you are invited to email me or call me with any questions you have regarding the information and exercises in the manual, and also to suggest further topics or issues that you feel are important. This is an evolving document designed to help you make the most of your training program.

How To Find A Preceptor
Each state licensing board provides a list of nursing home administrators who have been approved to serve as a preceptor to supervise and certify that an applicant for licensure has met the internship and experience requirements for licensure.
You can use the handy links I have provided on my "Links" page to locate your state board and access their website that has information about preceptors and contact information.
Be careful in selecting a preceptor from a state "approved list" and verify in writing with board staff that your preceptor is approved and qualified to supervise your board required internship. I have seen many cases where these lists are outdated and an individual completed their internship only to find out their preceptor was certified and the board would not accept their AIT hours.
It may be prudent to get verification in writing before hand, and an email may be sufficient. Also you may consider making a copy of the supervising NHA's preceptor certificate.
